Love Data Week

International Campaign Week on Research Data: February 10-14, 2025

The topic of research data management is becoming increasingly important in modern scientific practice. Research always relies on data, whether historical text sources or virtual measurement parameters. Collected data enable us to understand relationships and generate new insights. This makes it all the more crucial not only to store these data securely but also to describe them and, where possible, make them publicly available. But who actually owns these data, and what (re)usage rights are associated with them?

The legal aspects of research data will be the focus of the international "Love Data Week" in February 2025, under the theme "Whose Data Is It, Anyway?". During the campaign week, the Würzburg University Library will once again coordinate a series of virtual information events on research data management at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg.

In five brief online Coffee Lectures (Monday to Friday, each at 12:00 PM), we will provide concise insights into the following topics:

  • Open Science *FAIR-Data *Research data management
  • Research data publication *Repositories *Electronic lab notebooks
  • Training programmes *Copyright and usage rights

After our ‘’knowledge appetisers‘’, we will be available to answer your questions.

Participation in all lectures is, of course, free of charge. No registration is required – simply join via Zoom!

JMU Data Journals: First Steps Toward Your Own Data Journal

Research data forms the foundation of scientific work and is becoming increasingly important. Providing a contextualized and detailed description, along with the publication of data in specialized data journals, is therefore critical. With the JMU Data Journals service, the University Library Würzburg supports researchers in editing and publishing data journals, whether subject- or project-specific. This session offers an introductory overview of how to use JMU Data Journals and demonstrates how to leverage this service to enhance your research.

Whose Data Is It, Anyway? Rights and Licenses for Research Data

Who “owns” research data? What should you consider when handling or publishing research data? Research data management often raises numerous legal questions. This presentation outlines the legal framework for using research data and discusses common challenges.

WueData: The Institutional Research Data Repository of JMU

WueData provides members of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg with a local solution for publishing digital research data. The repository adheres to the FAIR principles and helps researchers meet the requirements of various funding organizations. The publication process is supported by the data curators of the University Library Würzburg. This session provides an introductory overview of the WueData repository, guidance on getting started with registration and setting up a workspace, and details about the services offered by the curation team.

Electronic Lab Notebooks: Sharing and Access Control

With tools like elabFTW, Chemotion, and Labfolder, JMU’s Computing Center provides a diverse portfolio of electronic lab notebooks to document research data transparently and meet specific disciplinary needs. Regardless of the discipline, there is a shared need to make this documentation accessible within defined groups. This presentation showcases examples of collaborative lab notebook management.
